Natal Chart of the Arboretum Mysticum Interpreted by A.M. Penn

I.          Overall Energy:

The orientation of Lodge’s chart has 6 of the major planets on the left and 4 on the right which means it is a lifetime of sowing karma and will give the Lodge a great deal of freedom in what it becomes, but will require a heightened level of effort (as opposed to a reaping lifetime in which it would all just fall into place, but with less freedom of choice). The planets on the right offer a key to what it is the Lodge is here to learn while the items on the left are energies the Lodge has familiarity with and can use as resources. The 8 main planets in the top half of the chart indicate the Lodge is meant to be externally facing. There is a pretty balanced distribution of types of energies, slightly favoring cardinal energy and slightly short on water.

II.         Planetary Placements:

Rising Sign at 24 Degrees Taurus/Descendant at 24 Degrees Scorpio:

A Taurus rising gives the Lodge the apparent energy of easygoing openness and charm – not a place where opinions are imposed, but rather suggestions are made for mature consideration. The lesson here is to understand the physical experience – bringing spirit into matter – for the purpose of enjoying it. As a practical earth sign, the Lodge is seen as a place of comfort, and as a fixed sign a place of continuous steady growth. With a Taurus rising, the Lodge must remember to stay detached from the outcome, and do the Great Work for the work’s sake, not for a specific result. We must always remember any status gained here is only a mask, an external marker indicating the substance within – appearances are just the tip of the iceberg. The Descendant indicates the Lodge seeks passionate partners with shared devotion to a common cause.

Sun at 23 Degrees Aquarius in the 10th house:

The Lodge’s sense of self is that of a quiet revolutionary, an appropriate sun sign to help usher in the Age of Aquarius. As a fixed air sign, the Lodge is a place of ongoing education and constant communication. Aquarius helps carry emotion, but does not become immersed in it. This objectivity provides great powers of observation that can be used to study technical and complicated subjects. This is the energy of emotion in intelligent motion, which is what is needed for transformation and innovation. Aquarius is eclectic, eccentric and individualistic – but this focus on the individual also implies a great concern for the collective, which lends to the humanitarian-nature of the sign (as seen in sun sign natives Oprah, Lincoln, MLK). The house of career and outward reputation, a 10th house sun placement is typically “known for” something, which may eventually lend a level of notoriety to the Lodge. A 10th house sun can also indicate a strong personal will, a natural leader, and an interest in making a positive difference.

Moon at 2 Degrees Virgo in the 4th house:

A Virgo moon feels with its intellect. This placement indicates the Lodge will seek to make order of emotions and will naturally lend the Lodge to a practice of figuring things out for itself. This is an intelligent and practical “seeking” energy that wants to methodically get to the bottom of why things are the way they are, consciously separating the useful from the worthless in order to create peak efficiency. An energy that shows its love through practical service to others, but can be very critical of itself (and others) if it feels like it isn’t accomplishing enough or meeting its own exactingly high standards of excellence – which it will almost always feel. As a grounded earth sign the energy is practical and focused on the material, but mutable enough to change and adapt as needed to continue the quest for precision, order, perfection, and achievement. A possible opportunity with this placement would be for the Lodge to bring something into the material world through handiwork, especially for the benefit of others. Virgo energy is very skilled at crafting and can be extremely creative and productive, especially if there is a purpose of service fueling the project. A 4th house moon placement indicates an emotional attachment to the roots of the Lodge (founding people, place, relics) this house is ruled by cancer (which is ruled by the moon) so there is a strong homey/motherly/familial quality. The Lodge should be mindful to let others into the “family” as Cancer energy can often feel like there is a wall up or shell that is hard to penetrate, making others feel they are unable to enjoy the soft nurturing heart-center the Lodge has to offer.

Mercury at 6 Degrees Aquarius in the 10th house:

An airy fixed Aquarius Mercury is a master of abstract thought. This energy is emotionally detached enough to be objective and humanitarian enough to desire to be of service. An inventive energy that is great with details, understanding cause and effect, and human motivations. Mercury in the 10th makes for easy communication and intelligent ideas. There may be opportunity for the Lodge to share new ideas in the communications fields – writing, public speaking, teaching, etc.

Venus at 5 Degrees Aries in the 11th house:

A fiery cardinal Aries Venus will make the Lodge enthusiastic, passionate, artistic, and aesthetically pleasing. An 11th house Venus is perfect for friendships and a social group gathered for shared interests. With Aquarius as the 11th house’s natural ruler there is an overtone of personal satisfaction gained through humanitarianism. This is an overall great placement for fostering a creative and cooperative spirit with a timelessly classic sensibility that is equally as fond of high-quality minimalism as it is eccentric attention-grabbing showmanship. This is a very confident expression of the divine feminine pointing to an experience of abundance through social support.

Mars at 10 Degrees Aries in the 11th house:

With Mars in its home sign of Aries this is an equally confident expression of the divine masculine. This placement infuses the Lodge with an honest, courageous, confident, independent, assertive energy making it poised to be a spirited and motivated leader. This is ideal for a circle of like-minded people actively pursuing a common goal but the group should be careful to always foster cooperation and support of one another, as competition will take the collective off course from achieving this goal. An 11th house Mars placement may be dissatisfied with an existing social order and working to create change through bold tactics. This is the energy of revolution, but must be careful to not move so quickly that it leaves behind those who are unable to keep up with its swift advancement.

Jupiter retrograding at 23 Degrees Libra in the 6th house:

Retrograding Jupiter indicates the Lodge is looking for an alternative to tradition societal conventions, pointing to the act of seeking answers from within the self, rather than through organized religions, traditional belief structures, or cultural norms. This placement creates a refined intuition and deepened faith and will lead to unusual means of expansion. Here, the top priority for the Lodge is to promote growth from within, not validation from the outside world. In general Jupiter in Libra grows socially, signifying the Lodge will be focused on balanced partnerships – but the retrograde turns the energy inward, making it a partnership with oneself. Jovial Jupiter in Libra is very charming, cooperative and attractive, but can be quick-tempered if threatened or pressured. An objective air sign, this placement allow the Lodge to be good at balancing opinions and judging issues, but can lead to indecision when tangible action is required. The cardinal energy of the sign lends to the ability to start expansive relationships and the ability to maintain harmony for the most part. A 6th house Jupiter indicates a desire to understand the connection between the mental and emotional bodies for the purposes of healing. This placement would like to serve themselves and others through this mental/emotional healing in a practical way.

Saturn at 25 Degrees Sagittarius in the 8th house, conjunct Galactic Center:

The “life’s work” of the Lodge is to bring ideas into reality through discipline of the emotions, intellect and spirit. The Lodge is the taskmaster and structure needed for a philosophical big picture approach to deeply intimate topics (such as work, relationships, death, and the world in general). The 8th house placement indicates the Lodge is the steward of its members’ transformations, which may often be an intense experience. The largest stabilizing life lesson of the Lodge will be one of patience, perseverance, temperance and transmutation. The conjunction to Galactic Center (GC) gives the Lodge a feeling of being stabilized by knowledge and civilizations that are extraterrestrial, interdimensional, and/or divine in their origin. Saturn’s conjunction to GC indicates the Lodge’s ability to help its members identify and overcome their personal “inferiority complex” through a type of direct-connect to the divine.

Uranus at 21 Degrees Aries in the
12th house:

The Lodge will be a compassionate and intuitive pioneer of mysticism. Aries Uranium energy indicates an explosive personal breakthrough while the12th house placement indicates the Piscean quality of surrender or desiring freedom gained through structure. The Lodge is a place for those who feel “too different to be accepted” to explore their individual spirituality through a solitude in a group setting that can at times be playful, sensitive and dreamy.

Neptune at 11 Degrees Pisces in the 11th house:

The Lodge is interested in ways of expanding consciousness beyond the level of everyday reality. Exploration of transcendental and metaphysical studies is an ideal undertaking for the Lodge. An innovative change agent, the Lodge provides the wisdom that it is okay to be different and is preparing the theoretical base of studies that will be fulfilled by following generations.

Pluto at 18 Degrees Capricorn in the 9th house:
The Capricorn placement indicates a concern with power and a desire for progress while the 9th house shows an interest in Sagittarian concepts like spirit, travel, and philosophy. The Lodge will be a place of redefining spiritual progress and power, possibly ushering in a period of serious and intense societal changes. The 9th house placement indicates a desire to understand life and the universe, and notes the Lodge’s emotional security is based on its belief system. The evolutionary lesson here is to learn that truth is relative to the path of the individual. This is a good placement for making tangible advancements in regard to such subjects as karmic patterns, spiritual concepts, law and societal systems.

North Node Virgo in the 4th house/South Node Pisces in the 10th house:

The Lodge has already developed compassion, intuition, and sensitivity – now its purpose is to develop discernment and learn how to serve others in practical ways, including healing. The 4th house placement indicates a focus on creating skills in domestic life in the same way the Lodge has already accomplished in its professional life. The Lodge currently carries a level of public authority, but its life purpose is to seek achievement through the deeds it accomplishes.

Chiron at 22 Degrees in Pisces in the 11th house:

The psychic wound the Lodge has experienced in the past and is here to help heal in others is anxiety. The means of this healing is self-transcendence. The 11th house placement suggests this will be done through a humanitarian social group.

III.        Notable Aspects:

Moon/North Node Conjunction:

With this conjunction the Lodge’s emotional body is experiencing a homecoming through its purpose of practical service.

Venus Quincunx Moon & North Node:

A quincunx is an alignment of annoyance, like an itch you can’t scratch, and here it appears as though the aforementioned emotional lunar homecoming may never be exactly what the Lodge wants it to b

11th House Stellium:

The grouping of planets in the 11th house is loosely considered a stellium, a cluster of planets in a sign or house (the Lodge has 3 main planets, some astrologers say it needs to be 4). A stellium is like a cosmic “note to self” thought to denote a heightened level of focus in that area. In the Lodge’s case it is appropriately group focused and with the added conjunction to Chiron it lends an emphasis on healing.

Venus/Mars Conjunction and Sextiles to Mercury:

From the 11th house stellium Venus and Mars are conjunct which indicates the Lodge’s desires and actions are aligned, this is a great indicator of integrity. The sextile to mercury then adds intelligence and communication skills to the Lodge’s motivations and views on abundance – creating a positive alignment of heart, head and will.

Yod:

Later in the evening on the 11th a loose alignment known as the “Finger of God” or a “Yod” (two quincunxes and a sextile) will be pointing to the moon conjunct the North Node. We might consider that this configuration is asking the Lodge to use the sextile between Venus and Mercury (alignment of heart and head) in order to help identify and articulate the emotional needs and overarching service-driven purpose of the Lodge.

Neptune Conjunct South Node (Opposite North Node/Moon): Neptune is a dreamy, compassionate, boundless, emotional energy that is the highest octave of love and it will resonate strongly with the natural capabilities of the Lodge. The warning here is to not let this energy overwhelm the Lodge, as it exists outside of the boundaries of Saturn and it is always tempting to fall back on the South Node skill set. The Lodge should use the energy of this South Node conjunction as a springboard into the North Node’s teachings of practical service.

Sun Opposed North Node/Moon: This is part of the remaining energy of the Full Moon Lunar Eclipse that was exact the day before – a reminder that when the emotional body overshadows the sense of self as a part of the divine it creates darkness. A cosmic reset button (like on a hair dryer), the eclipse allows spiritual energy that wasn’t fully functioning to solidify into a tangible path and be useful again,

Sun Sextile Uranus and Saturn/ Saturn Trine Uranus:

This indicates harmonious, easy-flowing, spirited energy between the Lodge’s self-concept, stable but inspired structures, and the cardinal ability to get started and cut through the clutter.

Saturn Trine Uranus and Moon with North Node/ Saturn Sextile Sun and Jupiter/Sun Trine Jupiter:

With its conjunction to GC, Saturn plays a very important role in this chart and is delivering divine messages that complement the pioneering gusto of Uranus, the Lodge’s humanitarian self-concept in the Sun, the emotional commitment to delivering on a life-purpose of service in the Moon/North Node, and the expansive inward reflection of retrograding Jupiter. Saturn conjunct GC is adding structure to an already harmonious relationship between the Lodge’s projected sense of self and its internal relationship with itself, which indicates the conditions needed for growth and maturity. Sun trine Jupiter is thought to be a blessing, like a cosmic Santa Clause bringing luck and prosperity.

Cradle (Uranus/Sun/Saturn/Jupiter):

The Cradle indicates the Lodge must work diligently at developing discipline, patience, ambition and endurance due to some scattering of the energy. Because the opposition lies between Uranus in Aries and retrograding Jupiter in Libra the struggle present here may be along the spectrum of the individual’s outwardly focused projections (I) versus the individual’s internal self-concept, or relationships (us) which is where one learns their sense of self through interaction with others.

Squares to Pluto:

The squares to Pluto indicate a motivating tension between the inward focus of Jupiter’s retrograde and the outward focus of Uranus/Pluto looking to make societal changes. Pluto is also squaring Mars which could indicate a tension between the Lodge’s motivation for quick growth and its ambition to make deep lasting change for the long-haul. Mars square Pluto is a very Scorpionic energy that indicates an intense motivation to learn deep truths and grow from this knowledge.

Interpretation by A.M. Penn July 2017

Message from A.M. Penn on 7th anniversary of the Lodge 2024:

Happy anniversary A.M. Lodge! Sending so much love to arborist past, present, and future!

A little context about this chart interpretation… I was new to the magical path having recently just completed Naha’s tarot course, and realizing that if I wanted to really understand the tarot then I was also going to need to learn more about astrology.

So, I just started practicing by looking at the astrological charts of the day and tracking the aspects that the planets made. I started writing a weekly astro/tarot interpretation and sharing it online as a way of holding myself accountable to conducting this work. From this consistent act of sharing, Naha saw that I had some comfort level with chart interpretation, so we agreed that I would look at the newly-formed A.M. Lodge’s astrology chart. This is my first attempt at chart interpretation without incorporating the tarot, and after many more moons of working with astrology I’d undoubtedly offer a bit of a different interpretation now. But what I really love about this early offering is that I felt Naha’s support in my astrological interest, and I wasn’t afraid to just try my best if it could be of service to the good of the group.

I often think of William’s brilliant teaching regarding the complexities of the old alchemical operations that involve a plethora of steps. He notes that at the end of the process one will have acquired new skills through the act of doing the recommended steps, and here lives an incredibly powerful pearl of wisdom.

Show up, be willing to try, acknowledge that the practice is far more important than the perfection. In the act of trying something slightly outside of our comfort zones we are changed and able to evolve. Don’t let a perceived imperfection hold you back from trying your best – whether it be in astrological/tarot interpretation, ritual performance, speaking a magical language, writing poetry, creating magical tools, or learning something new. The art creates the artist, and unpolished crystals are just as powerful as smoothed stones.

It is with so much gratitude that I honor this beautiful convergence, and pray we will enjoy many more years of magic together.

LVX,

A.M. Penn
