Our 24th convergence of the 22 Teachings Book Club presents The Four Agreements by Don Miguel Ruiz.

A modern Toltec classic, The Four Agreements offers a simple, powerful framework for clearing the mind, strengthening integrity, and refining the way we relate to ourselves and others. While Ruiz speaks from the Toltec lineage, these teachings translate beautifully into the training of the Hermetic student. In our four weeks together, we’ll explore the agreements as practical disciplines for the magician: working with the power of the Word, dissolving projection and assumption, and applying right effort with steadiness and humility.

Rather than treating these as inspirational ideas, we’ll approach them as operations: ways of working with the mind, the emotions, and the subtle body. Each agreement becomes a lens for exploring how speech functions as a creative force, how projection shapes reality, how assumptions create glamour and illusion, and how consistent effort becomes the steady heat of transformation.

This book is short, accessible, and deceptively deep. Together we will read and discuss it over four weeks, weaving it into what we study at 22 Teachings, including symbolism, Tarot archetypes, alchemical refinement, and the inner mechanics of perception and will.

As always with our bookclub, we record audio only, no video, and this is sent to everyone who is signed up. We do not sell the audio later on the website. This is a participation based event, designed for all to share and feel safe to ask questions, share experiences and learn together.

This discussion will be facilitated by professional Tarot Reader, ceremonial magician, and long-time student of 22 Teachings Jessica Chappell of Tarot de Baja.

Jessica will reach out to everyone signed up a few days in advance of week 1 to check in.

At 22 Teachings, Jessica leads the Book Club and creates tarot-based ritual classes that invite students to step inside the symbols so that what is read on the page becomes lived, embodied magic. Jessica has always been a seeker, and motherhood initiated her into a new octave of magic. Becoming Bisou’s mother gave her an even clearer sense of why spiritual practice matters in real life, in real time, with tiny hands tugging at the hem of ritual.

Her relationship with the unseen began in childhood, collecting crystals and reading tarot as a way to listen beneath the surface of things. In 2017, she began formal study with Naha at 22 Teachings, where her work in Hermetic Qabalah, ritual magic, and tarot became a dedicated path. She approaches the tarot as a living book of wisdom, a mirror for our human experience, and a practical tool for choosing the next right step when the soul is quietly asking for change.
