The Ruby Rite:
A 2-night Initiation into the forbidden knowledge of Ars Notoria
Online via Zoom
Weds Feb 25 and Feb 26
Teacher: Manuel Casanueva
Prerequisites: None

The Ars Notoria is a medieval discipline of ritual prayer and visualization devised to strengthen memory, refine eloquence, and clarify thought. Preserved in thirteenth century Latin manuscripts, it circulated beyond the boundaries of authorized learning and was repeatedly condemned for asserting that intellectual illumination could be attained through ritual practice rather than formal instruction.

The Ruby Rite introduces this tradition through concise historical framing and guided work with selected passages. Spoken aloud with attention to rhythm, the prayers are approached as they were intended, operative texts that train attention and shape understanding through repetition and focus.

Each session concludes with a Latin recitation. The ruby serves as its emblem, signifying inner fire, concentration, and clarity of vision. Through study and practice, the rite offers direct engagement with a disciplined method aimed at the formation of intellect and perception.
