The Lantern: Naming Ceremony
Recorded March 2025
Speaker: William Kiesel
Prerequisite: None

‘To name a thing is to have power over that thing.’

The power of giving name to things is shared in Wisdom Traditions across the globe. Identity, orientation and authority are provided by the names we use in societal, cultural and spiritual contexts. But the magician seeks to go beyond this exoteric system of labeling in the secular world and into the realm of Divine Presence.  The importance of esoteric naming as applied in one’s journey in the Steps of the Adepts cannot be overstated. Join William as he discusses naming in magical practice and shares examples from occult history, including in his own practice and in the lineage from which his experience was derived.

Join our most esteemed faculty teacher, occult scholar, author, and ceremonial magician William Kiesel for THE LANTERN, where he illuminates the concepts of the Western Mysteries that many may have heard of, repeated or sought but few have true down-to-earth understanding of. In this metaphoric opening of the veil, his aim is not to make magic mundane but to show you its true glimmer when it is lived.

Speaking from his experiences walking the path, his depth of knowledge and wise counsel, William will share stories, propose theories, tell the tales you won’t find in books, introduce you to esoteric figures he has met in his life, and enlighten you on the real side of magic without the mumbo jumbo of fanciful phrases without real meaning.

Presented not as a class but more of a “fireside chat” we invite you to tune in, bring your curiosity, and through the sharing of the Lanterns light, receive real mentorship from mouth to ear.

William Kiesel has walked the path of esotericism for over 30 years. His practical experience and historical knowledge of occult literature and culture draws from such diverse disciplines as Hermeticism, Neoplatonism, Qabalah, Thelema, Alchemy, Rosicrucianism, Theosophy, and Ceremonial Magic. He continues to study esoteric symbol systems in religion, mythology and folklore in historical and contemporary contexts. William is a natural teacher and good orator with the distinct talent of making the enigmas of esoteric symbolism clear to the curious. He is also the director at Ouroboros Press, the publisher of classic texts of Western Esotericism. www.bookarts.org
