[Online] Voices of the Orphic Gods 4-Part Series with Manu

The Orphic Hymns are among the most profound expressions of ancient Greek spirituality. These concise yet powerful texts, rich in symbolism and rhythm, were composed as invocations to the gods and used in ritual settings. In this course, faculty member Manuel Casanueva offers a direct engagement with four selected hymns, studied in their original language, Ancient Greek, accompanied by his own translation and commentary to guide participants toward deeper understanding. Each session includes a ritual reading of the hymn aloud, restoring its force as living speech.

The sequence of Nyx, Helios, Selene, and Zeus traces a symbolic journey from primordial mystery to cosmic order. Rather than surveying the full scope of Orphic thought, the course follows a clear arc that allows participants to experience the movement from the invisible to the visible, from chaos to meaning. Each hymn is explored through its language, imagery, and ritual context, balancing philological precision with interpretive insight.
