Magic Tools: An Introduction to Theurgic Implements
Teacher: William Kiesel
Recorded February 2025
Prerequisite: None

Ceremonial magic utilizes a diverse array of tools to assist the practitioner in the Great Work. The rites, prayers, meditations and operations of magical art are augmented by the use of consecrated tools made for the direct purpose of high magic. This class brings these traditional implements into focus by presenting the history and folklore of the various forms they take and outlining their symbolism and use in contemporary ritual magic. This overview provides orientation for those navigating the path of the magician by explaining the purpose and design of the temple equipment at their disposal. Just as mundane tools are used in a workshop, so do magical tools have their function in the Magic Circle, Sacred Space or Ritual Setting. Tools for protection, scrying and spirit work. Banners, pantacles, lamens, tripods, the lamp and more. The Wand, Cup, Sword and Disk are discussed as are more obscure accoutrements. Students will learn about the most important of these tools and their context on the path of self knowledge and ritual magic.

This introduction is the prelude and prerequisite to a focused series of workshops on the symbolism, construction and consecration of specific magical tools with each tool given a hands-on deep dive as guided by William’s decades of experience in ceremonial magic. These workshops in some cases will include the actual fabrication process, for instance, the first one: The Robe.
